Founded in 1858 by a French immigrant, this is the oldest café in
Argentina. Round the wooded-panelled walls and the oak and marble
tables have sat writer Alfonsina Storni, renowned painter Benito
Quinquela Martin, Carlos Gardel, Baldomero F. Moreno, Luigi
Pirandello, Federico Garcia Lorca and Arturo Rubinstein amongst
other artists, writers and Members of Parliament who contributed to
create the special atmosphere with their personalities and makes
this traditional café to be inseparable from the history of Buenos Aires.
You can enjoy the history, food specialties and performances as well
as a permanent art exhibition.
