Municipal
Palace:
Major
Apolinario Cisneros contracted Italian architect Pedro Petrocchi for the
construction of the Municipality, the Church and the number 1 School
with the idea of respecting the traditional conception that the
buildings should be on the same block and opposite the main plaza.
The
municipality, which was similar to a “Cabildo” still looks like the
original construction, has a beautiful Red Hall for deliberation of the
council with artistic and historical value, with the painting and deco
made by a French artist who reproduced aspects of Versailles halls.
There is also the Blue Hall with furniture, carpets and six crystal
chandeliers brought from Paris.
Obelisk:
It
was founded in memory to the founders and the inhabitants who struggled
for the progress of the city as the 100th anniversary of the
foundation arrived. It was unveiled 23 December, 1939 and is located at
the junction of Avellaneda and Sarmiento Avenues and gives the
city-centre an original touch.
Our
Lady of El Carmen Church:
Italian architect Pedro Petrocchi started building of the church 15
April 1873 and put the finishing touches in 1878. The parish House was
built on 9 de Julio Street with an Andalusian Patio inside, and years
later became the San Miguel College.
During 1921 the church was repaired and so was the cross which had
suffered a fall was repaired by Francisco Calles in his workshop. The
stained glass works were made by Carlos Pallarols and Carlos Ruiz
Santana. New, important repairs were begun in 1999 and still in
progress.
Evangelical
Christian Church:
The
Evangelical work in Las Flores dates back to 1889 when preacher Joaquin
Otero arrived. The congregation needed a permanent missionary and he
arrived in 1890 when George Graham settled here preaching the Gospels,
created and directed a bilingual school and bought the grounds for the
current church on 425, Las Heras Street which was built by Alejandro
Pastore.
