MAR DE AJÓ
This village offers a family environment to tourists throughout the year
as well as interesting outings and a shopping district. Lovers of
fishing choose Mar de Ajo for its extensive fishing pier which is 270
meters long and has a fishing area of 20 by 25 meters.
“Margaretha” Shipwreck
This
German ship run aground in September 1888 probably one of the first to
do so in the area. Location: Libertador Avenue and the beach.
“La
Margarita” Mural”
This
50 square metres mural represents the image of a shipwreck representing
the ones that happened in the area. Next to the mural is the “Those
fallen at sea monument” with three fragments of the “Vencedor” ship
which sunk 10 kms from Mar de Ajo as well as the chains from the same
ship. Location: Costanera and Libertador Avenues.
Liberator of the Sea Monument
This
work was made in honour of General Don Jose de San Martin representing
his landing at Paracas Bay, Peru on the Moctezuma ship. The monument
measures 10 mts of height. Location: The piazza at the corner of
Libertador Av. and Francisco de las Carretas
“Lo
de Maria Lucrecia” Educational
Farm
This
farm has an organic garden, automatic milking plant, wild animals, a
“Creole (destreza criolla) skills school, children amusements,
entertainment for adults and a typical countryside eating facility. The
main activities are horse riding, horse carriage riding, fishing and
guided tours. Location: Pavon road, 3kms from the Mar de Ajo roundabout.
