POLO DICTIONARY
Banderillero : one of the referees who stands behind the goal with a
flag and validates goals.
Bocha
: the ball, plastic or wooden, 78/80 centimeters and 120/135 grams.
Chukker: each period of 7 minutes; there are 8 chukkers in a match.
Cogote : a hit executed from under a horse’s neck.
Handicap: a value of between0 and 10 which measures each player’s
ranking. The higher the handicap the better ranked the player is.
Mimbres: the goal columns separated by 7,3 meters. They are built in
such a way that they could not injure players or horses.
Petisero: caretaker and trainer of a Polo horse (“petiso”). Petiso: this
is the name given to Polo horses. Argentine horses are the most sought
after in the world-
Taco
: This is the bamboo flexible stick used for hitting the ball. It
measures around 130 centimeters.
Throw-in: This describes the way the game begins which is when the
referee throws the ball in between the lines formed by the teams.
