Gaucho Museum Ricardo Guiraldes
The
Criollo Park and Museum offers Argentine of the past, linked to the life
of the Gaucho, his habits, uses, objects, means of livelihood and
contribution to the life of the country. It was given the name of
Ricardo Guiraldes since his personality and written works are very
closely related to the “Don Segundo Sombra” descriptions of the Gaucho.
It opened in 1838 and declared National Historical Monument in 1999.
Opening Hours: every day, except Tuesdays from 11.00hs to 17.00hs.
Location: Ricardo Guiraldes Road.
Museum and Cultural Centre “Usina Vieja”
There
is an exhibition of agricultural machinery from the beginning of the
century. The building has three floors and an underground floor. One of
the halls is used by the Museum de la Ciudad where old objects are
exhibited. Another hall is dedicated to Gaucho crafts created by local
artisans, and the third hall exhibits reproduction of posters and
almanacs of painter Florencio Molina Campos.
The
underground still has traces of the steam engines which generated
electric power and is pure artisan architecture, both roofs and walls
made of bricks.

“Carlos Merti” Zoo and Botanical Park
This
Park was born in 1952 as an annex to the Natural Science Museum. It is
the first Zoo-Botanical garden which breeds and exhibits native
Argentine species with special interest on Pampas and Mesopotamia
regions.
The
particular aspect of it is that dedicates itself to “minor fauna”, that
is, common species but not very well known by the public. Some of the
species found here are: rapacious birds, ducks, flamingoes, etc., wild
cats, reptiles, foxes and amphibians. The Park is populated by native
argentine species like old jacarandas, “tipas”, “palos Borrachos”,
“umbues”, timboes, ”lapachos”, ceibos, espinillos and a great many
country bushes from different regions of the country.
