Its construction was commissioned by the Comodoro Rivadavia to a shipyard in Birkenhead England. The corvette arrived in Argentina in 1874 bought by President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. It attained world fame for the celebrated rescue of the scientific expedition of Dr. Otto Nordensjkold in Antartica in 1903. It also participated in the defense of territorial sovereignty and supported the pioneer population of Patagonia. Elements belonging to the Swede and Norwegian shipwrecked people are exhibited in the museum. The 3-mast frigate has 85 meters in length and 13 meters in width. Was a school ship of the Argentine Navy. After exceeding a sailing distance of 1,000,000 miles (39 trips across the world’s oceans), the frigate stopped sailing in 1961.
