The Celebration of the First Farm Colony of the Country are made in Colonia Suiza, province of Buenos Aires, as this is the first point where the Swiss families settled after arriving in the country. The anniversary is celebrated every year during the 4th of February, and already celebrated 158 years since its inception. The foundation of the colony occurred in 1856, when the Rincon Reef plots are donated to promote agriculture. At that time the families arrived to the region.
During this festival is honored and recalls the work of those first families who carried out agricultural work in the locality. Opening activities are performed in the Plaza of Agriculture, and comprise: receiving authorities and delegations, the song of the Argentine and Swiss hymns and words of the President of the Swiss Society. The fruits of the earth are then blessed.
After opening the festivities move to the Swiss House, where a wine of honor served. Exhibitions of photography and visual arts in general, and the inevitable cheese board with a variety of Swiss delicacies are also available. There are performing arts place. Organizations and institutions attending dress in clothes typical of the Swiss community, and decorated with pins.
The first settlers to arrive in the region plowed a shovel, fencing and arbolando plots around them. They planted peach, plum, pear and also paradise, poplar and elder where there were no trees or firewood.
