The Salami Festival is held every year in mid-September in the town of Mercedes, province of Buenos Aires. The city is only 100 km from the city and every year it hosts the largest celebration in tribute to this popular sausage. The holiday is celebrated since 1975, and already has more than 32 editions.
The elaboration of salame quintero is an activity that takes place in the city since the beginning of Mercedes. The tradition spread over the years, and today is still very much alive. The event is conducted by a commission of festivities in conjunction with the Municipality of the city, and in view of promoting tourism in the city during off season tours are offered to explore the town, plus an afternoon of field with folkloric shows, racing pigs and racing rings.
Lunch stars the salame quintero, and these days the city is full of shows and craft fairs, so that visitors can enjoy and take souvenir many products besides inlay renamed. During closing of the celebration, a contest in which competing local salami, and conducts an award for the most outstanding mercedino salami is made.
The various sessions include a gala night, salami making demonstrations, fashion shows and the inevitable musical performances, cheering party and include national artists, in addition to foklóricas rocks that include the participation of dance groups from Mercedes.
