The International Yachting Week takes place in the city of Mar del Plata, during the second week of February. It originated in 1966, when Argentina Race Yachting Federation (FAYC) designated the Club Nautico Mar del Plata to host and organizer of the Day of Yachting. After the event resulted in the National Week of Yachting, consisting centerboard classes along a week.
The festival was established in a traditional national sailing championship, and many sailors from around the country come to the waters of Mar del Plata to participate. The annual event features more than 550 competitors, and is usually transmitted by journalists from major sports channels like TyCSports. Participants come from all over the country but also the world, including countries such as Ecuador, Peru, United States, Chile, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Mexico.
