At the end of the 19th Century the Scot Henry Smith arrived in Buenos Aires Port carrying wooden clubs with a metal head at the lower end. Customs officers suspected they were weapons and wanted to take them away. After a long explanation he was let in with the clubs and golf was free to be born in Argentina.
