In the renowned corner of San Telmo, is a building that traces its origins to 1769, when started as store campaign, then grew into hospital, later became General Customs Office, even during the war of Paraguay, was used as a refuge for wounded and sick.
With the arrival of immigrants and mixing with the creoles, born in the suburbs, the Tango. This is where the story of “El Viejo Almacén” starts, into the hand of Russian Paula Kravnik who restored the building and transformed it into a meeting between the bohemian crowd and popular music.
In 1969, Edmundo Leonel Rivero, resignified the place making it the “Templo del Tango”, and since then it is internationally known as the home of the most traditional tango in Buenos Aires, despite the years that have passed since their beginnings, its owners are constantly striving to keep alive the identity of this music and its atmosphere. This place is chosen both by tourists and Argentines who want to listen and vibrate to the beat of a tango, so that cultural barriers are lost, and music is the unique language that unites the public and all recognized.
By this local approached exponents of Tango: Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Roberto Goyeneche among many others, scattered his talents, which were appreciated and applauded by many personalities among whom are the King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, presidents of different nations of the world and many others.
In 1982 it was declared by the Honorable Council of the City of Buenos Aires, Site of Cultural Interest.
